November 2024

 Monday 4th November 2024

Today we started with warm ups to get us prepared for the day and ready to go. After warm ups, we did audition preparation, I went off with Jaden and Emily and we sat and sang through the song that we have to do for the audition on Thursday, after we practiced the song, i went and sat in the changing rooms and focused on my vocal audition piece for tomorrow, The notes and tips we were given from Kelly were to make the character nervous, as if she had just got the job of the blue fairy and it was her first day and she had been given lines in a sense that she had to learn and this was her first time doing so. I spent my morning working on this, by the end of the morning I was very happy with the piece that I had for my audition.

Tuesday 5th November 2024

Today was audition day, i went in this morning and we started with warm ups, after warm ups, Kelly spoke to us and then sent us all off ready for the auditions. I went to the changing rooms to practice my audition, i tried it many different ways to see what would be the best option for my audition and what most suited the character i was going for. I tried it in front of a few people and worked with a few of the fairies to see what would work best for me. I then also found some of the other fairies and we shared ideas on how the fairies might be portrayed. Today i felt more nervous about my audition than i sometimes do, it is a role that is very different to anything i have played and i believe it is a challenge for me.

I went in to my audition and i knew that it was not the best performance i could have done, but i think that it went quite well. In preparation for my audition, i did some research i watched the movie Pinocchio, and i watched some different versions of the stage show “My son Pinocchio Geppetto's Tale” as the versions are very different and some of the characters are depicted very differently, so i had to do my research on the fairies in training through YouTube videos and research of the musical itself. After i finished my audition, Kelly told me that it was good and she would be bringing the fairies back in as a group.

After Lunch, we all waited to see if we had a callback or if we had to go back in groups, i spent my afternoon doing some research into the characters to see what more i could find out about the fairies in training, there is not much information about them but i found some stuff.

Wednesday 6th November 2024

Today, we had a Disney workshop audition with Abbie, we started off warming ourselves up, because we knew there was going to be a lot of physical movement and dance today. After our warm ups, we gathered round Abbie and she sat and gave us information on Disney and what it is like when auditioning for them and working for them, she told us that they are very strict on appearance. And it is not an easy audition process. As a fun activity, Abbie split the board in half and wrote on one side Fur and one side Face we had to get into four groups and as groups we had to come up with characters for both groups, my groups came up with many and i wrote quite a lot on the board, but it was interesting afterwards to learn about the characters that are fur characters that you wouldn't think like Maui and Buzz Lightyear.

After this, we started to get up on our feet, we did a light warm up and then we started on the character part of the ‘’audition’’ we started off by walking around the room and picking a fur Disney character and really thinking about that character and bringing them to life, really thinking about their physicality and them personally as a character, how they would think, how they would move and how they would interact with other characters/people in the park. For this, the character i chose was Tigger, because i think personally there is a lot to unpick about Tigger, he is a very fun and bubbly character, he always bounces and he is very springy. I walked round the room to start with, and then as i got more and more into it, i started skipping, gradually making it bigger and bigger the movements wider and the characterisation more dramatic. By the end, i was jumping up and down skipping and hopping and running all at once, full of energy and smiling and laughing when interacting with people.

The next part of the day, included Abbie putting on ‘In Summer’ from Frozen, and we all had to dance to the song as if we were Olaf, but we had to think of the things like the fact that we would be wearing a puppet head, so the movements we had to make iwth our head had to be big and expressionate. We did it all at once to start off with and then we did it in groups so we could all have the chance to watch each other. I found this activity very fun but personally, i also thought that it was quite interesting to think about having to be expressionate with your head and really thinking about the arm movements because they are made of sticks and the body movements because hes made of snow but it was very fun to take all the things on board and really have to focus on each thing as we were dancing as the character.

After this, was a dance workshop, Abbie taught us a dance that was one of the audition or parade dances from Disney land a couple years ago, i will admit i found it hard keeping up the energy that was needed for the Disney character through the whole dance, but that was because i was still trying to focus on remembering the moves from the dance because we had just learned it, i was really struggling at first because i was really struggling to remember the dance, but as we repeated it and did it more and more times, it felt a lot easier and more fun and i was able to enjoy myself , we split into groups and i was quite nervous, but once i started doing it, i just enjoyed myself and let myself enjoy it.

The final part of the morning included us writing down questions we had for Abbie about Disney Land and the Auditions or just Disney land in general, It was interesting to hear about Abbie’s experience working for Disney and what it took for her to get in. And to end the session, Abbie put on a slide that had all the information about the different heights of the characters so we could see who we could possibly be if we did decide we wanted to audition for and got into Disney.

Thursday 7th November 2024

Today, was singing audition day, i prepared myself in the morning, doing more and more work on my song, i have never been a strong singer, so i knew i couldn't get the blue fairy but i wanted to give myself a challenge of auditioning for one of the fairies. In the dance studio, Tom led us in a vocal warm up to get us prepared and ready for the day. We then split off and practiced the songs, i sat with the other fairies in training and also some of the blue fairies and we sang through the song together. It then came to audition time, i went in and i know i didn't do well I'm not the strongest of singers as it is and i was nervous so my voice was breaking and i was not very good, once i came out of my audition i was quite upset because i knew that i didn't so well. But i went back in with the rest of the fairies in training as a group and we did it again, i felt like this time i was slightly better and i had more physicality for the character. I knew that i did not do the best but i was happy that i tried and im glad i had the experience of going for a fairy. Through the rest of the day, i helped other people with their auditions, i helped JJ with what he was physically going to do in his audition and a group of us sat in the black box room throughout the afternoon and helped each other with the physicality and also vocality of their auditions. After auditions were over, we all worked together to clean our spaces and declutter, i helped clear out the cupboard and we found loads of scrapbooks to use for the production roles side of the shows where we can put our mood boards and planning in them.

Monday 11th November 2024

Today started with focusing on ensemble character work within Pinocchio, more specifically the children in toys and in the school scene, when working on a piece like Pinocchio, ensemble scenes always take the longest to get right because there is so many people in the scene that it is hard to get it right and everything flows and fits together correctly and that attention is not drawn away from the main focus of the scene, so this morning we spent a lot of time on focusing on who we are as those characters, giving them their own personality and connecting them to the story and other characters within the show. Because the children live in a town where they are supposed to be perfect, we had to keep this in mind when giving our characters their own sense of perfectionism aswell as them still being children.

Tuesday 12th November 2024

Today, we spent the morning preparing for our duologues, me and Alex went off and sat in the changing rooms and practiced our duologue for todays lesson, we started by running back over our lines until we knew them fully because we were both having difficulty learning our lines. Once we were confident that we knew them, we ran back through the physicality of thew piece and made some adjustments to it, then we asked Keira to give us some notes on the piece, so we showed Keira and she helped us and gave us the notes. During the afternoon, we focused on some singing so that we knew how to sing the songs in preparation for blocking them.

Wednesday 13th November 2024

Today we focused on Toys, we started re-blocking it, the rest of the times we have done this, i have been an adult, but now i have changed to being a child, so it was interesting for me to re-block the scene as a child. As this scene is very much an ensemble piece, it has been very hard to get right and perfect, as each section has to match the energy of the others,  as well as matching all the acting up with the singing solos, making sure everyone was seen during there solo aswell as still keeping the acting of the song balanced all around.

I love being able to play a child in this piece now, because the change from an adult is really interesting, children are so care free, no worries in life, especially these children, all they are bothered about is the toys, they just want all these toys that they are surrounded by in Gepetto’s workshop, I think the biggest challenge in the song is the slow motion section, because we still have to show our characters whilst making it slow, which means we need to make it bigger and the facial epressions need to match the body language, i love this challenge becasue it gives me more expereience in more different types of acting.I believe that this section is the part that eill take the most polishing becasue it is a very complex piece and we need to make it work with the rest of the cast while also having Gepotto moving in normal speed so it is like the world slows around him.

 Tuesday 19th November 2024

Today we focused on our Dear Evan Hansen assessment work, me and alex worked through our duologue, trying to find ways to make it better, we ran through it quite a few times, changing little pieces, and making sure it gelled together.

Wednesday 20th November 2024

Today staretd off by running through toys again, this time the makeup artists came in to watch, so that they could get a better idea on how the ensemble characters are, and also that they could get a better idea of the show. We then got a chance to sit down with the makeup artists and talk about ideas for our makeup, as i am not one of the main characters, we sat and just had a makeup artist come over and tell us that we could do our own makeup and they would give us a face chart.

We then moved into the beginning of pleasure island blocking, we took different parts of work that everyone did on Monday, I wasn't in on Monday but i found out they worked on things like a rollercoaster and rotating teacups, my part in pleasure island i go on and have a fight with daisy, we find random items and start hitting each other with them.

Thursday 21st November 2024

Today we started running through the show, from the start getting the opportunity to finally see how the show comes together, we only got up to ‘I’ve got no strings’ but it was good to see the piece starting to come together. We then moved on to Satisfaction guaranteed, i was not in when they worked on it the first time, so i had taken the time to learn what it was that i had to do in this number, i managed to pick it up quite easily and i got to work with the people i do the scene with to see how it changes depending on the person playing Thalia. I love this song and scene because i love all the characterization in the piece, i love the way that the characters are meant to be perfect and i find it challenging but fun to change from being a child to being this perfect couple whp wants a perfect child.

Monday 25th November 2024

Most of the morning was spent witht the strombolis blocking their main scene alongside the musical number, as i was not in this scene, i spent the time doing costume stuff, i made lists of all the people in each of the casts and who they play, so that i could work out who has what  and what they need, i like being on the costume team because i love the feeling when you see all the costumes on stage together.

Tuesday 26th November 2024

Today was very productive, we ran through all of act one with blue cast and red cast. It was very helpful to see the structure of act one and to really see all the work that we had done individually as smaller groups become one, doing the run through really helped me to figure out what scenes i can be in and what will work best for me and to organise myself and what scenes i need to be in and how much time i would have for changes. We then went over toys to really perfect it and make it work well.

Wednesday 27th november 2024

Today we spent the day doing more pinocchio rehearsals we did full cast runs and then we spent time doing work in little groups on the things that needed improving.

Thursday 28th november 2024

Today we spent the day continuing pinocchio rehearsals we did full cast runs and then we spent time doing work in little groups on the things that needed improving. I also spent a lot of time checking pwoples costumes, i made a spread sheet and put evry character and the people who played them each cast and made sure to check that every one had a costume, for the people who didnt have them, i told them what they needed to get and i made lists of the people to keep checking in on. We also found all of the perfect children dresses that Kelly had sourced, and we had the task of fitting everyone in a dress and making sure that evryone in each cast had a dress and that they all fit in them and they looked good stood with each other.
