Pinocchio Evaluation

 Pinocchio Evaluation

My aims for Pinocchio were to entertain the audience and creating a magical experience for the families, children and adults all of those who came to see the show. The impact that i wanted to have on the audience was that they felt like they had been submerged into a world of Disney, and that they were really as part of the world that we had created. I personally think that these objectives were met by me, because i did a lot of Disney research and also used my knowledge to put it in the character, making my characters very big and bold and giving them a lot of characterisation

I think that I managed to show my emotions quite effectively, I went from a spoilt, moody child to a very happy over enthusiastic “mother” when I was Maria, she was always happy and smiled, she was so full of cheer and enthusiasm and it was a very fun way to change up my characters to go from a child throwing a tantrum to an adoring mother who has just been given the child of her dreams.

Throughout the performances, I used my voice to show a lot of my characterisation, I made sure to focus on my articulation, and pronunciation of my words, because as my characters changed, so did the way in which I spoke, when I was playing a child, my voice was very nasally and winey, and high, to show the voice of how people would imagine children. When I changed to Maria, I had changed my voice to be very posh, and I spoke quite slowly, making sure to pronounce my words a lot more than when playing a child, showing that clear definition of the change of character. And when playing mother fox, I then changed my voice to be very slow and soft, almost slinky, how I imagine a fox would speak if a fox could speak. I believe I used my physicality and movement well, in toys my character was very chaotic and always throwing a tantrum, I utilised the space for this by running around, not just the stage but also into the audience, where as the contrast to Maria, who was a lot calmer, I stood with Jack who played Bernardo, and we only moved slightly and very calmly.

I think my movement really helped show the contrast between the different characters. I was in most of the ensemble scenes, personally, I think the ensemble work is one of the most important parts about a show like Pinocchio, without the ensemble, it would be a very hard piece to put togehter, i think working in the ensemble scenes for me was great because I loved building up that scene for the main cast and personal choices that I made were I think that listening to the other people in the scene could be quite difficult when it came to pleasure island, because of the amount of different things that went on in the scene and the different things we had to do whilst also listening for our queues, it was a great challenge but I'm glad it pushed me as an actor. As I was on the costume team, I was in charge of a lot of creative choices that I helped make and a big part of that was looking through the script, reading the script and figuring out what all of the characters were like and then doing research on the characters to help find out the costumes then I sketched out ideas and talked to each of the actors playing those characters, for me, I paid attention to the details, Idelia was supposed to be this perfect bright place to live, so I made sure to get a bright yellow dress, with a yellow cardigan and ribbon for my hair, on doing research for Maria, I found out I had a dress already that was really similar to hers, so I wore that. I think my strengths in this piece, were my accent for maria, I worked on the accent alongside jack, we thought that maria and Bernardo needed to be quite posh and “perfect” so we both had a posh accent, I think also my strength was my facial expressions and body language especially for when I was a child in toys, because I felt like I really captured the tantrum of the child that I was playing, especially in the slow motion when I was crying and throwing a tantrum on the floor. I think things that could have been improved for me was my fox-like characteristics, I think to a certain extent I captured them, but I feel like they could have been better with a bit more work.
