Unit 10 - Progression

Unit 10 assignment. - Progression

I think my strengths in my acting are, my character acting, because i always do research into the character i am playing and make sure i know everything about that character, so i can have a better understanding of the things that the character would be feeling and their experiences. I also think that i am good at staying in the moment and in character when on stage, i like to keep part of that character in my head even when i am not on stage, so it feels more natural to go on after not being on after a scene or a few scenes because it is easier to keep the character alive. Things that i want to improve on, is my ability to act on screen, i have done screen acting, but i always find it harder than stage acting, on stage i feel like it is easier to be in the moment because the scene is set around you and it is just one continuous story, whereas on screen, it is split up and most of the time, it is not filmed in the right order so it is harder to act out the story when in some cases, the end can be filmed before the beginning. Another thing that i would love to work on more is my directing, because i love the creative freedom that can come with directing, so i am excited to do so in the year two project.

I have always loved acting and the whole experience that comes with it, I want to continue growing and learning to be the best I can be. Being on stage it feels like home, giving me the chance to be someone different and escape for a while - getting away from everything and moving into a new environment makes me so happy and it really gives me a feeling like no other.

Involving myself in shows and acting, I have been part of a theatre company since I was a child, and I have taken part in many shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Puss in Boots and this year Aladdin with said company, and I have the honour of playing Princess Jasmine.

During school, I had taken part in the school shows like ‘Legally Blonde’ - where I was a part of The Greek Chorus, a principal singer and dancer, ‘Hairspray’ where I was part of Corny's crew, Brenda, also a principal singer and dancer. This experience was wonderful for me because I enjoyed being part of these musicals.

Last year at college I was involved in many more shows ‘Horror at the Globe: Ghost Light Tours,’ where I played one of Jack the Ripper's victims, this experience had given me the chance to fully go into depth with the character and fully envelope their feelings, going from the researching of the character, to devising a piece of singing/movement then to performing the piece on stage. ‘Peter Pan,’ where I played one of the lost boys Nibbs and the bravest girl, this was fun for me because I got to play to very different personalities and ‘Radium Girls’ where I played Mrs. Fryer, Grace Fryer's mother over the year I played many characters who were all different - I played roles of all ages child to teenager to a older woman. The experience of playing different characters of all ages has made me well rounded actor.

We also entered connections, where we did a piece called "Shout" where I played one of the mean girls, and were 1 of 10 groups of theatre schools and colleges out of around 250 groups chosen to perform at the Dorfman Theatre in London at the National, this was a huge opportunity especially with only just starting my career.

Over the years, I have done several types of work experience, during college and I have taken part in shows at Stockton Globe and The ARC in Stockton. At The Globe, we did Ghost Light Tours and then at the ARC we had done Peter Pan. Alongside this, I had also volunteered at my theatre company when I wasn't in the show, to do backstage work - I helped with the production of the show. This experience has given me the chance to be able to understand every part of a show and all the work that goes into it. I had also helped with the costumes and props for all of the shows that I have done within college. I have also taken part in and helped organise many charity events and done fundraisers for shows, I think this has helped me with my organisation and responsibility which has helped me grow.

My hobbies include acting, dancing, going to theatres to watch musicals and reading I have always had a love for reading books and plays it is entrancing but then so is being in a theatre and watching from an audience members perspective. I have done both acting and dancing from a young age and I have always been charmed by the magic of theatre and dance.

My goal for the future is to become an actress, the thought of being able to perform on ‘The West End’ has always been a big dream of mine. I love being able to perform in front of people and bringing them joy, l also love the feeling of watching an audience at the end of a show and the joy on their faces because it’s lived up to their expectations and that I have possibly inspired another young girl or boy or even an adult to want to become an actor/actress. This course really interests me, because I really want to grow as an actor, and I believe this course will give me the opportunity to improve my skills and use them to become an even more rounded actress and reach the next level in my studies.
